My route to professional guitar repairs started back in 1988, when I became guitar tech for Leeds-based band Cud, who enjoyed considerable chart success in the days when such things seemed to matter a bit more. This led to a full time career as a touring guitar technician. To this day I still tour selectively.

Over the course of 21 years I have enjoyed the privilege of working with many highly respected and legendary musicians. I have had the good fortune to travel the world in the name of rock’n’roll and have done gigs in many famous and iconic venues. Frequently, I found myself working alongside, and learning from, the best guitar techs in the world at festivals. Notably, David Bowie at Glastonbury, REM at The Isle of Wight Festival and Iggy Pop at the Fuji Festival in Japan. Other memorable festival outings include, Big Day Out in Australia, SXSW in Austin, Texas, Roskilde in Denmark and, of course, Glastonbury.

Around 1998, as my interest in repairing guitars grew, I began to realise that there was only so much I could learn whilst on the road. It was around this time that I met a wonderful and generous repairman called John White, who effectively took me on as an apprentice. After spending many happy hours in his workshop watching him at work, picking his brains, soaking up as much knowledge as I could and honing my skills, I felt confident enough to approach a guitar shop in central Leeds with the idea of setting up my own workshop. I have spent the last 8 years working there as the in house repairman, where I deal on a day to day basis with all manner of repairs, from fitting a strap button on an entry level guitar to the complete and thorough overhaul of priceless vintage pieces; You never know who is going to walk through the door and what the next repair might involve.
